Where did all the pixels go?

Why is it that my 15″ laptop that is just a month and a half shy of being six years old is capable of running at 1600×1200 yet now it is huge deal when a new 19″ LCD with a resolution greater than1280x1024 is released? Same for current laptops? What did I miss?

It’s cause 15″ laptops are bestest. I mean, just look at the new MacBook Pro. It comes in 15″, while the not-quite-as-rad MacBook is only available a measley 13″ version.
There are plenty of pixels on this 15″ MacBook Pro in the Vegas Apple Store.
